The Desert's Sound - 5 DAYS
Founded on a vision of sustainable human development, SEKEM nurtures the individual, society and environment through a holistic approach. In 1977 Ibrahim Abouleish began revitalizing 70 hectares of Egyptian desert, 60 km northeast of Cairo, using biodynamic methods, and a self-sufficient community soon emerged, where people of different cultures and religions live and work together. Convinced that education is the foundation of human development, SEKEM founded its own schools and Heliopolis University (over 3,000 new students a year). Today it is an agro-industrial group of companies and NGOs, recognized worldwide as a leading social business.
This tour is a compact immersion between SEKEM and the Western Desert: a warm welcome at the oasis near Cairo, the drive to the Wahat Farm in Bahareya with a live concert under the desert sky, a night in Bedouin tents in the White Desert, and a final return to Cairo for the colours and flavours of the Khan El Khalili bazaar. It is the essence of the journey — community, desert and sound — in just a few intense days.
