The Desert's Sound - 7 DAYS
Founded on a vision of sustainable human development, SEKEM nurtures the individual, society and environment through a holistic approach. In 1977 Ibrahim Abouleish began revitalizing 70 hectares of Egyptian desert, 60 km northeast of Cairo, using biodynamic methods, and a self-sufficient community soon emerged, where people of different cultures and religions live and work together. Convinced that education is the foundation of human development, SEKEM founded its own schools and Heliopolis University (over 3,000 new students a year). Today it is an agro-industrial group of companies and NGOs, recognized worldwide as a leading social business.
This tour includes all of the above and then opens up further: the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the new Grand Egyptian Museum, a full day inside SEKEM's living community — from the Weekly Circle and Eurythmy to its farms, schools and biodynamic heart — and a closing visit to Heliopolis University with a hands-on workshop on traditional Egyptian music. More time to slow down, listen and truly enter the SEKEM world.
